Ireland’s first National Disability Survey in 2006 involved interviewing 14,000 disabled people chosen at random from those who recorded a disability in that year’s Census. This provided valuable information on issues affecting people’s lives which could be used to inform policies and services for people with disabilities. Information on that survey can be found here.
The Central Statistics Office and the Department of Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth (DCEDIY) are considering carrying out another such survey after the 2027 Census. To assist in the planning for this, the NDA is organising a consultation with stakeholders to identify key areas of focus for this potential survey.
